Multinational Joint Ventures

Simply stated, joint ventures are entities or business organizations formed between to two or more parties to undertake a common economic activity, often a specific project.  It is a vehicle to minimize risk and increase resources and experience.  The parties forming the joint venture may be individuals, corporations, parnterships, limitied liability companies or any other legal entity or any combination of entities.  The parties agree to create a new entity by both contributing capital resources and then share in expenses and revenue, as well as management and control of the entity.  The joint venture itself may be formed as a partnership, corporation, limited liability company or any other legal entity.

Joint ventures between domestic companies and foreign companies are a popular means for both organizations to satisfy their business objectives. They offer each joint venturer to benefit significantly from the comparative advantages of the other partners.  The local partners generally bring knowledge of domestic markets, familiarity with government bureaucracies, laws and regulations, understanding of local labor markets, and manufacturing facilities and other local resources. Foreign partners can offer advanced process and product technologies, management know-how, and access to export markets. For either side, the possibility of joining with another company in the new venture lowers capital requirements relative to going it alone.  Moreover, in some countries, joint ventures are the only vehicle for foreign companies to enter the market place, particularly because local laws require domestic ownership.
